Interview With The Rock Star (Part I) MP3: 542KB

One of those purely serendipitous songs: I was desperately stuck working on something else and the first two lines to this song just kind of wrote themselves. I'm most proud of figuring out how to reference John Cougar (poor John - he takes more than his share of my abuse), Bob Marley, and Sonny Curtis in one line.

Lyrics:

What's the matter, rock star?
Someone rained on your parade
And now you're breaking every
limb and limit that you once
Obeyed - you're chasing waterfalls
Someone took your curtain calls away

Who betrayed you this time?
Who's afraid of your success?
The fabrications and the lies
  they fed to VH1
Of all the supermodels you've undressed
Will build your legend in the end

How'd you make it this far?
Fighting everything in sight
The law, authority, the sheriff
  and his deputy, you
Might as well call Sundance
The Bolivians would like a word with you

Where's your inspiration?
What'd you do with her address?
The clutter of cliches you're
writing would suggest you need her
Songs are growing less melodic
Paths approaching asymptotically

What's the matter, rock star?
Someone rained on your parade
And now you're burning every
bridge and Bridget Jones you once betrayed
You're chasing waterfalls
Someone took your curtain calls away
