Perfectly Ordinary Love MP3: 436KB

I've been growing a bit tired of the whole " Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" argument. It's amazing that there was a candidate in the 2004 Republican primary for Illinois U.S. senator, Norm Hill, who used the argument (he said "Adam and George") in an NPR interview. To make a long story short, I was writing a cute little love song and I just figured that Adam and Steve would be as good a set of character names as any. Not quite the same twist as I used in Johnny, but you get the idea.

Lyrics:

Steve didn't have a memorable opening line
Hello, do you mind if I buy you a drink, something ingenious like that
Adam sat back, thought it over, under, and through
By the time the tequila arrived, they'd been laughing it up for a minute or two
Just like you and I would have done
It was just a perfectly ordinary love

Steve and Adam started seeing each other in June
In September, Steve found a video lying in Adam's bedroom
Steve didn't get jealous, he didn't get even, he made sure he got in on the fun
Just like you and I would have done
It was just a perfectly ordinary love

Later that winter, Adam's mother got sick
The doctors said she had a month, maybe two, so Adam moved back to the Bronx
Adam went out to get sushi for him and his dad
Steve took his turn at the hospital, waited 'til visiting hours were through
Just like you and I would have done
It was just a perfectly ordinary love

Sometime in the mornings, they would cuddle
On their third anniversary, Adam proposed
Steven sat back, thought it over and under, Steve thought it all the way through
By the time the champagne had arrived, they'd been calling their friends for an hour or two
Just like you and I would have done
It was just a perfectly ordinary love

On their first anniversary they met for drinks
Steve and Adam walked out of the bar hand in hand, just like you and I would have done
There on the street, they encountered a man who had murder concealed in his heart
Words were exchanged, Steve can to Adam's defense, just like you and I would have done
For four years, it was just a perfectly ordinary love
